Good Hospitals for New Grads in Tucson

Published

Hi Everybody!

I was wondering if anybody can tell me the names of a few hospitals in Tucson that are REALLY good for New Graduates in Med/Surg to start in ...I'm thinking orientation, training, reception by staff and pay.

...and maybe lists a few that aren't New Graduate friendly.

thanks!

Found some info on Kino operations last night. Summarizing:

University Physicians Inc. (UPI, a non profit organization) entered into a flexible 25 yr lease. For the first 10 years, the county pays UPI approx $127million service fee. Pima county and UPI are to create a master development plan for healthcare expansion at the site. If monies are available, Pima county will construct a health center and psychiatric facility adjacent to the hospital with bond monies ($37 million).

I believe UPH (University Physicians Healthcare) is a division of UPI as they provide medical care to patients in support of the academic programs at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. They are interested in research, teaching, and training.

I am a student nurse extern at St. Mary's and love it. The staff and the doctors are great and the med/surg nurses never get more than 5 patients, which is more than you can say of most of the Tucson hospitals. All of the nurses I have worked with are really good about answering questions and never make you feel like a question is dumb or you should have known the answer without asking. Their orientation program for new grads seems really good too. I have heard that TMC is very hard on new grads, but I don't have any first hand experience. Also, several nurses have told me that Northwest is very understaffed and is a really hard place to work.

Specializes in Cardiac.
