Hi! I'm very interested in becoming a CRNA and I was wondering if my experience would measure up? I just started as a new grad in a teaching hospital in their MICU. Most of their patients are vented with drips with Diprivan, Dopamine, Primacor, Neo, etc running. I haven't had RN experience with these yet, but they mentioned that they on occasion get hypothermia patients, IABP's and patient's with CVP and a-lines. I'm just wondering if this would be a sufficient ICU to be in? Looking forward to y'alls opinions!!

I would go to where ever you will get the most experience with invasive lines, multiple vasoactive drugs, and vents. Schools like surgical ICU the best from the ones I've seen but if you MICU deals alot with septic shock and things like ARDS with multiple comorbidities. Just make sure to make the best of it through your experience and if you feel it isn't enough transfer to your SICU.

Sounds like it would work to me. Just that if most of their patients are vented and you are using pressers like neo, I would expect you to get more than the occasional cvp and a-line--they should almost all have them. These days you might see just an occasional swan. Is it a level one facility?
