Anyone have experience here? Recently applied and curious to hear from those in or previously in the program..

Thank you!

I'm in the FNP program at Gonzaga University.  It's a 3-year program whether you choose MSN-FNP, MSN-PMHNP.  Just know that the first year and a half is a bunch of what I call 'fluff' classes, that they make you take.  Just know grad schools are out to make money.  You won't even get to Advanced Pathophysiology, and Advanced Pharmacology until 1 year in.  If you choose the Psych-NP track, you will follow along with the FNP cohort for about 1 1/2 years.  You'll have your first Immersion weekend (when you have to fly/drive do Spokane) starting in your Advanced Health Assessment class & Practical.  You'll be together with the FNP students at that immersion.

Following Advanced Health Assessment Classes: This is when you'll break off and do all the Psych NP requirements in the following semesters, and the FNP's will do their requirements separately in their semesters.  If everything goes according to plan (as in no time off) you'll graduate at the same time as the FNP students that started with you too.

Do I regret it? A little bit? It is a lot of money.  But I can still work my 0.6 FTE at my hospital.  I just want to get out of bedside nursing.  But I have 4 semesters to go, and I'm not giving up.

Hope this helps!

I'm applying for the PHMNP program now. I work full time at the VA, though with the tremendous schedule changes coming in the new administration I'm considering jumping ship. I'd love to know more about how the actual work-life-school balance looks with this program. Longleggedrn, I'd really appreciate any more insight in this that you're willing to share!

Hi Liz919,

So, my work life balance is OK, I work 0.6 FTE at my current hospital, I also work (for free) babysitting my niece 2 days a week.  Now that I'm at the portion of my clinicals I either work 1 day a week or two days the opposite week.  There is a Facebook Group called Gonzaga Family Nurse Practitioner, that I recommend you join.  The people in the Psych Mental Health NP Program post in there.  The group consists of Alumni, Current Students, and Students considering Gonzaga for Grad school.  It's a great opportunity for you to ask questions too.  Hope this helps!

That helps so much, thank you! I've applied and am excited about the move, thank you again!
