Goldenwest College Fall 2013 Questions--Current or Former Students Please Help!

Published

Hello Everyone--

I just received my letter of 'conditional acceptance' to Goldenwest's nursing program for Fall '13. I am equal parts thrilled and terrified!! I also need some help and support from current or former Goldenwest nursing students in the community. I have two young children (under five) and need to get a general idea for what the first semester might look like. For example, are there specific clinical days, or a specific number of clinical days each week? what days and how many are theory? What are the hours spent in the classroom/lab/clinical setting on a given week?--ETC. I am trying to figure out my childcare situation and a general outline of what semester one will look like would help me SO MUCH! I called Goldenwest and spoke to someone in the nursing department who gave me the basic information--ie, 'plan on x amount of hours per week' etc.--so I was hoping to have some luck in the nursing student community itself. Thank you so much in advance for you time :)

Hi Liz 1982!!

I just read this post and wanted to reply and say "hi"--hoping you will see this even though you wrote in June!! Are you in for the Fall 2013 at GWC? Did you go to orientation? I have two small kids as well (my oldest is 4.5) and would love to chat with you about your thoughts on attending nursing school with small kiddos. It would also be nice to know someone in the same boat as me!! Anybody else out there with wee ones attending school? Any tips?

Hi! I am in the Fall GWC 2013 class I was assigned Orange Coast Memorial as my clinical site on Saturdays. How about you? I am so excited to finally get started. I just purchased my shoes and stethoscope this week to complete my list of needed items. Have you started on the math or abbreviations list yet? I am so happy they released these items early so that we can feel a little more prepared for what's to come. I feel like the orientation gave me the reassurance I needed. This is going to be tough but we can do it. It was great being able to speak to the former 1st semester students. Our student had 4 kids;she was so helpful and encouraging. Well I'll end my novel here. It's great to know there are other parents in our class and that we will be working together

Hi!!

I am going to start on the math/abbreviations when I get home from the East Coast--We are visiting family right now. I am also super excited about fall, and my clinical site is Kaiser fridays! What are your child are plans for your children during the semester Liz?

My soon to be 1st grader will have after school care at the Y and my preschooler attends OCC's Harry Grace Steele Child Development Center. They are phenomenal! If you are looking for child care I would definitely recommend a tour. They have caring educated teachers with low child to caregiver ratios. My oldest also went there before elementary school. If needed they have different financial aid options available. The only problem is they do usually have a waiting list. Since my clinical day is Saturday my husband will be able to watch the kids. I know most the people in our class didn't want Saturdays but for me it allows an extra day during the week for studying.

Hi everyone,

I have a question about how to complete Magnus Immunization Tracker.

I visited the web site and filled my information in Vital Health Record.

But I cannot complete the tracker.

What should I do in this section?

I believe that it is very easy to complete, but I'm still stuck.

I sent an email to who you know and called her, but she is on vacation.

I also sent an email to another lady, but she doesn't reply yet.

I hope that someone will help me out.

Thank you in advance.

Lol I wrestled the phone away from my daughter as she posted that last one!! Liz1982 I am so glad your childcare situation is all squared away--that is the most daunting and challenging part of all this for me so far! Glad to have someone who is in the same boat :) will we have to chat more on campus this semester!

I am so sorry I didn't see your post until now. Busy in Summer school. I was at OCM on Fri. I'm not 100% sure but I think our clinical days for first semester were Fri and Sat. I know this info is coming way too late. I'd be happy to give any of you my email for further questions.

Hello Chelsea,

I am currently in the same situation as you were in 2013. I have a conditional acceptance at Golden West College for spring 2016 but I need to check for the daycare. Could you please let me know how many days , hours you have each semesters. thank you for your time to answer to my question.
