Golden West College Fall 2015/Spring 2016

Published

Hey Everyone!

I noticed that there isn't a thread for Fall 2015 or Spring 2016 and I'd love to start one!

I know that everyone just turned in their applications or will soon.

It would be great to start a chat and share our points with one another.

Hope to talk to you guys soon!! (:

Congrats to everyone coming in to the program! And good luck for those alternates still awaiting space to potentially clear up!

For those in the program...get ready :) it's intense...awesome...and 1st semester seems to fly right by!

Hi @ShannonKelly,

I just wanted to ask you since you are in the GWC program how you like it so far? Also how many times a week do you guys have clinicals?

Hello Pigloo

I have been accepted for spring 2016.

@ShannonKelly, I have to start to organize daycare for my kids so I would like to know how many days you have clinicals, lectures each semesters, and at what time you start lectures, clinicals...

Thank you

Amelie

By spring 2016 they may have some changes implemented (as they are always altering and tweaking the program as needed)

Clinicals are just 1 day a week (starting week 4) but expect a 13 hour day. The clinical days in 1st semester are Thursday, Friday, or Saturday...for me, I have Friday.

The day prior to your clinical day you also go to the hospital between specific hours to pick out and research and gather info on your patient...which you then go home to prepare your paperwork on to turn in when you arrive at the hospital before your clinical shift. (At my hospital we are allowed to research the patient the day before between 2-5pm the day before our clinical day.

Routine class and lab hours are on Mondays and Tuesdays (starting week 4-16) Mondays are shorter days and go from about 8-1230 (although test review can also occur in the afternoon those days as well)

Tuesdays start off a bit later (a little before 10 and go until 430 approx)

Through weeks 4-16 there are about 4? (I think 4) days where you can expect to have additional lab hours (depending on your clinical group) and the day and hours you go depends on your specific group.

For weeks 1-3 expect to have classes/lab and be busy all but one day of the week. For us this semester for the first 3 weeks the only day we had off during the weekdays was Thursday.

Although for weeks 4-16 may seem spaced out (time wise) of only having class time Mondays and Tuesdays and hospital time on one other day (plus a few additional hours the day prior)....expect to be busy trying to balance time for clinical paperwork and studying. After my clinical day (Fridays) I spent Saturday and/or Sunday doing post clinical paperwork to turn in on Monday ...so weekends made it difficult to find study time amongst the looming paperwork.

Hope this helps somewhat...and any other questions feel free to ask :)

And sorry if the explanation of the schedule seems jumbled ...essentially it's a pretty packed schedule. But it could change (or the clinical days could change depending on what hospital assignments they are able to get for your semester) ...but this is essentially our schedule for this semester

Keep in mind that each semester is different...and as of right now we don't have much info on what to expect schedule wise for our second semester. (Although rumor is the clinical day is Wednesdays)

Has anyone heard anything for alternate lists? I stopped by at the department today and I was told that emails and letters were sent out the past 2 weeks. Feeling sad that I am not receiving it.

Hello! I haven't heard from them too. Did they say there are a lot of drop outs lately from those who got in?

@ aileen.mae10, No, she only said that if I wouldn't receive the notification by now, wait through until the fall semester begins. :-(

It's making me really anxious :( I hope we get in. I hope we get more drop outs 3

To those waiting, I was just accepted to Saddleback's program and will now be declining my spot at Goldenwest, opening up a spot, hopefully for one of you! Good luck!

@ Dals-- Thanks :-). I wonder you declined either fall 15 or spring 16.

It would be for the Spring program.

Well I have some good news for you all, I just got a email offering me a spot in the spring 2016 class (I'm guessing I got dals spot).

I had 56 points to offer you all a frame of reference for how far down the list they are.

Good luck everyone
