Going to LPN school Full Time and working

Published

Hello,

I'm planning on going to LPN school full time(if I can get in) in a few months. I plan on quitting my FT job and working PT(as a caregiver or CNA maybe) when the clinical semester starts. It's a 1 year(3 trimester) program, so I would quit and work PT in my 2nd and 3rd trimester. I'm going to try to save as much as I can to help with bills(rent, car payment, gas, food, etc.), but what is a reasonable amount to work? I'm thinking 25-32 hours per week(mostly weekends and mornings since the program is weeknights)? Any tips? Thanks!

You can't really predict how much you'll work in a certain semester because it depends on what your taking in those semesters. The 2nd and 3rd semester were very busy as was the first. 25 hours probably would be the max. It is brutal.

I work min 24 hours/week (2 12 hour shifts-weekends) its doable because I'm determined as can be and need money. I don't have help from anyone financially and have 3 kids to keep a roof over their heads.

You have to stay focused on school. Work ahead if your teachers give you a syllabus with what is due that will help you a lot. Remember though your time that you would have to spend with friends/family/free time will be at work so you need to be prepared for that.

It's hard and I do NOT recommend doing it but you have to do whatever you can to get through the program.

It will be worth it in the end.
