I'm a registered CNA. I just found out that I didn't get into nursing school this year. So in the mean time (or at least the remainder of the summer) I'm going to work as a CNA so I can get extra experience. I have a job interview tomorrow for an at home assistance company in town.
I know a couple people who have done at home assistance work and they preferred it over nursing home work. I worked at a nursing home for my CNA clinicals and it certainly wasn't one of the best.
Does anyone know some Pros/Cons or what exactly an at home assistance job usually entails? Is the pay usually less than a CNA working at a nursing home?
Thanks for your time!

Hi Brittany,
I work for a home health care agency and it has pros and cons.
Good things-
Normally only one client. Flexible scheduling, meeting different people, and depending on the client depends on the level of difficulty. I have had hospice clients to clients that just need someone to be with them.
Negatives- Where I am you have to pay for the gas, and it adds a lot of miles to a car, depending on how far you will commute for one client. It can get boring at times. You will be in someones home, so you can see really negative living conditions. No one is right there if you need them.
As for the pay, I know that I make 1 dollar less than the people in the hospital, but always only have one client. I also have short shifts, which I get paid more but I'm not sure if all companies do that.
If you have any specific questions let me know :)
