Hi,
I've been "lurking" on this site for a while now and I think there is a lot of good advice given on these forums. I need some advice from my older and wiser ladies and gentlemen. :)
I am just going to shoot straight from the hip and hope someone helps me out with the questions.
My goals are to get accepted into Nursing school, complete it, and work as a nurse for at least a year before starting a family.
Should I complete the associates degree and boost my GPA as high as I could possibly get it, then complete the pre reqs or just complete the pre reqs, test and apply to nursing schools? :hdvwl:
Thanks in advance. :)

It depends on the NS you want to apply to. The school I go to only looks at the grades you get in the required prereq's - especially A&P. You'd be better off finding schools that do this and not go by your GPA - that way you're not wasting money on classes intended to boost your GPA. Then, work your butt off in A&P and micro - try to get all A's if possible. Many schools that only look at prereq's have waitlists to get into the nursing program and students with higher prereq grades get in first. That's what I did - and if A&P is your only class that semester it won't be so difficult. I managed to do it with a young child (she's 3 now, she was 1 at the time!) and a husband who tries super hard to be supportive but gets frustrated at times.
Good luck and I hope this helps.
Thank you for responding with great advice. You are an inspiration! :)

Yeah...the school that Im applying for only looks at the grades you made in the required pre-reqs too. So I agree with ChinacatSN. I woudnt waste time with some courses that wouldnt count. They determine your gpa with the prereqs. I would advise you to try to see which schools you are interested in and speak with someone like the head of the department or an advisor. They can be more help to you since they work there and have to deal with these types of questions often.
