Going into business for myself, a far-fetched idea?

Published

I'm a new graduate ANP with no job. I know there are grants out there to help NPs start a business of doing house calls and such. Is anyone familiar with this? Also, how much does it cost to get a DEA license? We didn't go over things like this in school. Bad idea?

Don't know of any grants. My DEA cost $500 or $550 but it was paid for by the staffing company I work for.

It's not a far fetched idea but you have to be savvy enough to know your legal scope of practice, your state requirements for physician involvement or non-involvement, existing channels for reimbursement, and of course, the finances to start the business. Typically, new NP's have difficulty with starting their own NP business practice for obvious reasons but there are a lot of internet resources that can help those interested in this venture and many NP's who are already independent are more than willing to mentor.

Hi,

THe DEA application/number costs $541.00 for 3 years. If you go to their website, they provide all the information you need.
