Goals & Outcomes in a Nursing Care Plan.

Can someone please tell me the difference between client goals and outcome criteria? Are they one in the same or are they different? Can anyone give me an example of each one? I'm having trouble with this part on my nursing care plan.

this has been the subject of some heated debates on this forum before. i suggest you discuss this with your instructors so you know exactly what their definitions of these two terms are.

this is my understanding of the two terms, but it has been debated as being wrong by others:

  • outcomes are the predicted results of our independent nursing actions.
  • goals are the predicted results of collaborative nursing actions.
