glucose meters...

Hi ya'all,

I am wondering if anyone in AllNurses-land has any web addresses or places that I can seek out to find a free glucose meter and supplies for a newly diagnosed diabetic who does not have health insurance.....

Got any ideas???

my hospital also gives out free glucometers, but as others have already said, it's usually the strips that are so expensive.

a couple weeks ago, a newly diagnosed pt needed one and the dietician asked if the pt has health insurance. she said she always recommends the relion brand from walmart for those pts that don't have insurance. i just looked it up, the glucometer is $8.88 and a 50-pack of strips is $21.94.
