Getting in a top NP program

What GPA do you need to get into a top 10 Nurse Practitioner program? Other criteria? I am particularly interested in Yale, Upenn, and Johns Hopkins. Also, what is the avg. amount of experience before entering into an NP program?

They usually want a minimum of a 3.5 GPA. Of course, they will be looking at your scores on the GRE/GMAT as well.

Most of the programs require at least 1 year of RN experience, but most students have a minimum of 2 years.

With those choices at the top of your list, It would be best to have at least a 3.5 GPA and a lot of diverse experience. In terms of diverse experience, I don't necessarily mean nurse experience, but experience in the community, aborad, collaborative effots, etc. This will help you stand out against others who apply. It is a competitive world out there. Good Luck! Most grad. nurse schools want at least a 3.0, no less than 1000 on GRE, and references.

The top programs will focus on the entire applicant not just the GPA. Experience and personaility will often out weigh a GPA. I am aware of 4.0 students with experience not being admitted, the interview went poorly. Know the program, including mission, know why you want to be a NP.
