Getting started???

Hi, I am currently in the Air Force and will be getting out in 2 years. I have decided that I would like to become a Labor and Delivery nurse when I get out. So that means I need to start going to school. Most of the programs I've read about require you to have a RN first the only thing is I haven't seen any programs to get a RN. How do you go about this?

Any help would be appreciated.

USAF vet here--10 years!!!!!!

I went to RN school after getting out on my GI BILL---so glad I did. Paid for it all----

check the colleges/universities all around where you live ---there HAS TO BE ONE THAT HAS A NURSING SCHOOL---even if you do have to commute a bit. MEANTIME YOU CAN DO THE FOLLOWING:

Get your general ed requirements knocked out----like

English 101/102g

College math or algebra

Biology w/lab

Speech

US history

Sociology

Psychology

Chemistry w/lab

Humanties/Arts

All the basics any bachelor's degree would require----would work for an Associate's too. also:

Get your sights set on a school or schools you will apply to. Find out WHAT EXACTLY they require for entry: ACT exams, classes/pre-requisites you need, physical exams, shots, etc. THEN APPLY!!!!! Some require an interview or essay as to why you want to be an RN---sounds hokey but be prepared to answer some of these questions Make sure you have a university advisor/counselor who is very clear on your goals and will guide you correctly on WHAT classes to take . Most schools require at least a 2.0-2.5 GPA to get in------but competition can be stiff. Mine accepted 30 out of almost 250 applicants. But don't be discouraged, I had to apply two years in a row to gain entry but MADE IT!

I graduated RN school in 1997 and am so happy I did.

I don't miss being in the Air Force much, but then my dh is still in as a career military man and will retire in about 2 years. So AF life is not "out of me" anyhow.
