Getting Started?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi Everyone!

I'm a Military Wife and I'm looking to become a RN.. I'm starting at square one, and would love some advice on how to get started. A few things, we move around a lot so if it's possible I would like to do as much as possible online... I know very little at this point so any information you can give me would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks!!! Kimberly....

You could probably take basic ed classes online through a university/college. Im honestly not sure what to tell you about the actual nursing classes because there are A TON of labs that you would have to go to! Most of the nursing courses requires labs! Anyways, good luck!:D

Since you're a military wife, do you live on/near a post? If so, you can go to the Education Center on the post and get some information. I know that our Ed Center on the post has several different colleges inside of it, one of them being a nursing program. From what I understand, these credits are pretty easily transferable and a lot of the classes are either online or in the evening Just a thought for you.

I'm not a nursing student yet (hopefully soon!), but you also have to keep in mind that a lot of the stuff you learn, especially for your RN, will be hands-on stuff. There will be clinicals, etc., that you won't be able to do online.

Good luck though! I am also a military wife, so I know how you feel about moving a lot!

Hi Kimberly!! I'm a military wife also going for my RN. You can take online courses at an online university. That's what I'm doing right now. I'm taking Sociology, Public Speaking, American Government, Psychology, and Physiology online at American Military University. I plan on taking my maths and sciences, and a couple of the other recommended courses at a local community college because I want them to be more hands on. I know online classes are more expensive. Have you heard of MyCAA from Military Onesource? They will give up to $6000 for military spouses looking to further their careers or start a new career. You can use the $ to cover your tuition costs. I'm using the $ they gave me for my online classes since AMU undergraduate books are included in tuition. My husband is deployed right now so I'm trying to get as much done as possible while he's gone. We're PCSing next year when he comes home so it should be interesting to see if everything transfers over smoothly and I can continue my path to my ASN.

Let me know if you have any questions I'll do my best to help you out!!
