I work in Omaha. What is happening with new grad around my facility is thay start in a nurse residency/orientation type program while waiting to take and receive board results. Most of the beginning days of this program are classroom work. I know a few times facilities have had instances of new grads that were at the end of orientation and failed boards. That has caused some hesistancy on the part of facilities to advance in the orientation process. Decided where you would like to work and ask what their requirements are in regards to GN's. Don't wait until graduation to start looking for a position.
I just graduated. Some of my classmates and I are getting interviews, but they are wanting us to pass boards first it seems. Others have a job, but they seem to be in an oreintation type agreement like mentioned before.
Places do seem to be getting more hesitant to hire new grads though...or that could just be an excuse considering I am pregnant...who knows.

I've e-mailed Nebraska's state board of nursing and have not received an answer to my question, so if anybody out there knows the answer, I'd appreciate it.
I will be graduating from a BSN program in December. In the state I currently reside, graduate nurses are still allowed to practice as GNs until they pass the NCLEX. Does Nebraska allow this, or do they require graduates to pass the NCLEX & obtain their license before they can be hired on in a facility as a nurse?
The reason I ask is because once I graduate, I will be moving back to Nebraska. I will find out more about the NCLEX exam next semester and get my forms to apply for state licensure upon passing the NCLEX - I know there's a period of time between completing the program and being eligible to take the NCLEX. Thus, I'm trying to figure out what I need to do for a job when I graduate, unless I can practice as a GN once I complete my schooling. Thanks for any help/information you can give.
