Getting my LPN with the hopes of continuing in an LPN to Bridge program somewhere...

Published

Greetings. I just wanted to see if anyone here had any advice or input regarding LPN licensure with the plan to eventually continue in an LPN to RN bridge program somewhere after getting a feel for the profession.

Does anyone ever do this sort of thing??? I mean, seek out an LPN certification to see if it's compatible with oneself???

The reason I ask is due to some apprehension with a 3-4 year long school commitment as well as a considerable financial investment.

I have a Bachelor's in a non-related field from a major 4-year university and haven't even finished the pre-reqs for an RN (ADN) program.

Some of these tech/vocational schools that offer LPN seem a little shady and was just wondering if anyone saw it that way.

Any advice wold help!!!!!

Hello! I am going to take the LPN then bridge route because I can not afford the BSN program I was accepted to. I am only on the waitlist at a first come first serve community college in CA. I would not go to a private vo-tech school that charges outrageous tuition. You can check to see if a program is accredited through your states board of nursing website.

To be honest I wish that years ago when I decided I wanted to become a nurse I jumped right into the LPN route. There is only one term of pre reqs instead of two and a half years like the BSN program I applied to. I think it is a great idea to become a LPN first to decide if it is a good fit for your personality, however there are differences in the scope of practice between RN's and LPNs so even if there are a few things you don't like about being a LPN you might not have to deal with them once becoming an RN. Either way good luck!

There are schools here were you can have a bachelors in basically anything and get your Masters in Nursing. This program only takes two years.
