Getting jobs as an IC

I'm curious how ICs go about finding assignments. Do you have a formed letter that you send to the HR department of various hospitals? If so, what do you usually include on there? Keep it short and sweet? Does anyone have a sample letter?

This seems like the proper way of going about it, but I've wondered if people have other methods that they recommend.
