Getting in to a hospital

Published

Hello,

I have been a nurse now for 6 months and I started in a long term care facility on a vent unit. Now I’m trying to get in to the hospital but it’s proving to be difficult. Any advice on how I can get into the hospital setting?

You're going to be fighting an uphill battle. Many facilities are seeing decreases in patient census due to stopping or reducing elective surgeries, patients choosing to put of non-urgent/emergent surgeries (many may have lost health insurance coverage along with income), as well as decreased revenue meaning hiring is being highly scrutinized. Nurse who have been furloughed, laid off, or had hours cut are likely fighting with you in the job market.

On top of that, you have only 6 months of experience as a nurse. You'll likely have better luck once you have a full year under your belt- and it will look better on a resume.

Thank you so much, I wasn’t really thinking about it like that. Your advice is greatly appreciated ?.
