I had my first OR observation opportunity yesterday and it was AMAZING! I got to watch a CABG and AVR :redbeathe and was fascinated by every second. I got to ask a lot of questions from the surgeon and from the perfusion team working the cardiopulmonary bypass system, but I didn't get to talk to the nurse who was responsible for doing the count. There were so many different types of instruments and I wanted to know about them all, but I didn't want to interrupt what she was doing. Could anyone suggest a resource that gives basic information on different types of instruments used in the OR, what they're used for, etc.? If I get another chance to observe in the OR, I want to have a better understanding of what tools are being used and why. Thank you!
