Get this story as I find it hard to believe

I was working last night and this discussion was brought up about working in England, USA, Canada as a nurse.

One of my colleagues states that when he was in Canada, he was offered a job to work as RN in one of the hospitals a few years ago. He also stated he would have been exempt to do the CRNExam?

I never said anything to him and the others but I was like thinking 'whatever'. I was also thinking, well I have done my research and I know for a fact there aint no exemptions no matter where you come from Internationally because even Canadian Nurses have to do it.

Sometimes I hear so much tall stories it makes me feel a lot better to know the true facts. Because a. have acquaintances who has nurse friends in Canada and b. I associate with a few Calgarian Nurses and lastly c. I investigated the source.

Anyways, just had to share that with u all:wink2:

a few years ago (probably 4 or so), my co-worker came from australia, and he wrote it a few months after getting here. i'm not sure why he didn't have to do it off the bat, but we were working together before he wrote it.

Interesting thread. I took the Canadian exam in 1987, moved to the US in 1988 never had to take the NCLEX. However, the US government changed this rule just recently so was forced to take the NCLEX. Passed it this summer, but after so many years of being out of school found I had to go back and review a whole lot of stuff prior to even practising taking the exam.

you CAN work in Canada without an RN licence for a specified term. If you get approval from the nursing province, you can obtain a temporary license and start working as a "graduate nurse" even if you are an RN in another country (I am experiencing this personally right now). I think the temporary license can be renewed 3 times and is valid for, I want to say, 6 months each time(??) I can't quite remember, but it is something like that.
