Most of my LPN positions have not been during daylight hours.I was wondering how as a LPN do you go back and get your RN when you are working as a LPN if most jobs are during the day and so are most of your nursing classes ?
I was an LPN for four years before earning my RN license in 2010. I worked full-time weekend double shifts as an LPN at a nursing home while attending school during the week. My work hours were from 6:00am to 10:30pm every Saturday and Sunday.
The weekend double shifts enabled me to earn 32 hours of pay every week while having Monday through Friday off to attend school. Other people work full-time night shift (Monday through Friday from 10:00pm to 6:00am) while attending school during the day. And there are those who work 12-hour night shifts every Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
You will find a way to make it work if you are willing to work the off-shifts.
The California Board of Registered Nursing is the only state BON that outright rejects online nursing programs such as ones offered at Excelsior College and ISU.Be careful with online classes because some States Boards will not accept them. I was fortunate enough to find a school that is night and weekends. So I could work if I didn't have my children to look after during the day.
The California BRN's gripe with online/distance nursing programs has everything to do with the lack of clinical practicum hours and the lack of concurrency with didactic (theory) instruction.
