So my group has been assigned to come up with a presentation addressing the legal aspects of aging. I am wanting to jazz this up and add creativity to it but not sure where to start. Any ideas? We are doing a Powerpoint utilizing the nursing process (somehow) regarding various legalities of aging, such as Advance Directives and End of Life Care.

I think role playing would be a great way to jazz up your presentation. A powerpoint just lists the elements of an advanced directive, but a family/nurse/patient interaction regarding end of life issues would be interesting and bring the material to life. For instance, the DNR/DNI lady came into my mom's room in the ICU after she was told she had 12-24 hours to live unless she went on a ventilator (which would get her 30 days). Role play how you would approach a patient faced with information, what questions to expect, and how to address them.

I think role playing is a great idea. Maybe involve your class in the role playing by acting out a " legal aspects of aging scenario" and then asking the class questions on what they would do and how they would respond. You could put the questions up on the powerpoint for everyone to see. Maybe the questions can directly involve the nursing process somehow, like what does the nurse need to assess, what interventions can help the patient/family with their decision making...or something like that. Good luck!
Thanks a million! Love these ideas!
