    Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. Just kidding........there is no credentialing process unless what you want is to be an administrator. To be a nurse consultant/director of health services in ALFs, you should have some experience in long-term care, enjoy seniors, and be good at assessments (psychosocial as well as physical). It's also nice to have some supervisory experience as well.

    Good luck to you!

    Here in Fl. if you want to be an adm. in an ALF you must take what they call Core training. it is a week long,and you have to pass a test. I am a RN and and an ALF core trained Adm.I work as an Ombudsman in Miami, fl.{ not in ALFs conflict of interest}
    You can be a nurse but if you want to open your own ALF and be the DON to you must take the course and test.
    you can be a nurse in an ALF without core training.feel free to contact me.I have been an ombudsman for 8 years and am the chairwoman and nurse consultant for the council.
    best wishes,

    Update on the rules regarding Assisted Living Director (Administrator) in Florida. In addition to the requirements given by the specific employer, the ALF Administrator needs to complete the core training requirements which include a minimum of 26 hours training and a competency exam given by a representative of the state of Florida. The only person who is exempt from the core training requirements is a Nursing Home Administrator.

    In addition to the initial requirements, each Administrator needs to complete 12 hours of continuing education every 2 years.

    Google alf core training florida to visit the websites of the trainers which may be in your area.
