Moving to GA after graduation, have question about board application

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

Hi All!

Due to my fiance getting placed in Atlanta, I will be moving to GA after graduation (I currently live and go to school in Ohio). I had a question about the board application and have been on hold with the GBON for awhile so figured I'd try here.

I'm reading where the application says you have to have your sealed transcript and the form your administrator fills out for the application to be completed and sent with the rest of the application. Do I have to wait until I have these after graduation to send the application in or can I send in now without it being completed and send the rest in when I have it? My school administration does not know much about other states' application processes so its been hard getting help. In Ohio, we can send it in after and our administrator mails it for us. Is it the same for Georgia?

Thanks for any help you can give me! :)

You can go ahead and send it in. You will be able to check on the website as to the status of your application. It will have each thing required as "pending". Once they receive everything then the license will be issued.

I would suggest you have a lot of patience though. Unfortunately the GA BON takes its own sweet time in processing things. It took me 3 months to get my LPN license issued due to a DUI that happened 26 years ago lol.

Good luck to you and have a great day!

Great thanks so much! I figured it would take awhile, especially since you have to get fingerprinted in GA and I won't be able to get down there until after graduation.

Got a quick question..Why dont you sit for Ohio boards and then apply for reciprocity in GA? You can actually take the test in GA without going back to OHIO then transfer them over instead of waitin for GBON to get back to u..thats what Im doing I currently live in ATL, but sitting for NY state boards once I pass I will transfer them over to me its easier..just my opinion

sorry i meant endorsment

I had thought about doing that but I thought I read where you have to have 3 months or 500 hours as an RN before you can do that?

From GBON website:

If applying by endorsement, the applicant must be licensed as a registered nurse in another jurisdiction and must have graduated from a nursing education program prior to passing a licensing examination recognized by the Board as valid for licensure as a RN. The applicant must submit the following:

  • A completed application with a fee of $60.
  • A completed criminal background check.
  • Provide verification of current RN licensure in another state.
  • Provide verification of original licensure obtained by NCLEX-RN in another state.
  • A verification of employment as a RN documenting (3) months or 500 hours of licensed practice as a registered nurse.
  • Any additional information requested by the Board as needed for licensure

I won't have 3 months or 500 hours but if there is a way around that then that would definitely be easier!
