Generic BSN or Second degree BSN Program

Hello all! I at a recent graduate with a B.S. in biology. I want to start nursing school in the Fall of 2016 for Texas programs. I have looked into second degree programs, where some of the programs start during the Spring semester therefore I will not be able to start until Spring of 2017. Would it be better to just do a generic BSN (2 years) or wait and apply for the next accelerated BSN program? Also some schools require the TEAS, where I have taken the HESI. Should I take the TEAS also? I have only applied to UTH so far, but I want to get a second opinion on other programs out there.

My Stats:

Overall: 3.0 GPA with B.S. in biology

Prenursing: 3.7 GPA

Hesi: 89%

Experience: Hospital volunteer & pharmacy technician

My overall GPA is looking pretty bad. What kind of options should I consider for Texas nursing programs?

Keep in mind that most accelerated programs utilize the cumulative GPA for admissions... they need to make sure that students can cope with the pace and intensity of the program and this is a much better indicator of overall academic ability than just the pre-nursing courses.

I advise you to keep your options open and apply to several programs and be ready to adjust your plan depending upon which one admits you. The competition is fierce. So your odds of success will depend largely upon your cohort of applicants. If they're a bunch of really high flyers, the 'lowest' GPA admitted may be very high.

Best of luck on your nursing education.
