Hello all. What would make me a top candidate for a nursing program? I have taken all my English and psychology classes including human growth and nutrition. This semester I am enrolled in A&P 1, statistics Chemistry and philosophy. I am 28, and have been married for 8 years and have a 2 year old. I have stayed at home the whole time, so school is a new thing for me. I have gotten all A's so far, but this A&P class really scares me. I feel so old with all the other students being right out of high school. Do you think 28 is too late in the game to try nursing school? Also, what did you do in order to be accepted in the nursing program? It is SO competitive here, only allowing 20 students per year and so I have been sort of taking my time taking courses that I noticed in the nursing program, that anyone could take, such as English, the Psych classes and A&P. Do you have any advice in general? Also do you have study tips on A&P? How hard was it for you? Today was my first day.

I'm 41 and I don't consider it too late in the least for me ... so it certainly is not for you! A&P is demanding, yes .. but not impossible to get an A. I got A's in both 1 & 2 ... it just takes determination, focus and keeping up with your reading. The best rules of thumb that work for me: never attend lecture without having read the chapter first AND always sit in the first row where the only person in your view is the professor. I was terrified as you are now before taking microbiology, more so than I was for A&P. Turned out to be a great class in which I also excelled. Good luck, you too can get an A if you put your mind to it. You have already done it before, why not again?
P.S. YouTube is a GREAT resource for videos on topics you are unclear on, like DNA transcription and translation and cellular respiration, remember that!!
