Thinking of quitting nursing school

Hi! This is my first post on this site so I hope I'm posting in the right section. Anyways, I'm a first semester nursing student and I'm almost done with this semester. I've realized I hate nursing. I like interacting with patients and I consider myself to be a nice, kind person but I absolutely hate patient care. I try to see the good in it and change my perspective but I just can't seem to feel comfortable with the responsibility of it. Since starting nursing school I've been struggling with depression and unhealthy coping mechanisms to deal with my current regret. Honestly, I was sort of pressured into nursing because my family thinks it's such a good career with great benefits and pay (which it is) but now I'm realizing good benefits and pay won't weigh out my dislike for being a nurse myself. Patients deserve a nurse who cares and actually wants to help them, not someone who does the bare minimum. I feel so guilty right now for ever starting this journey. I like the medical field and enjoy learning about diseases and how to treat them but actual patient care just doesn't feel right for me. I don't know what to do. I've thought about switching to medical assisting (I know the pay/benefits/flexibility isnt as good) but if it saves my sanity it's worth it. I'm stuck. I've put so much work into getting into nursing school only to realize I hate it. I really give credit to all the nurses out there, your job is tough! I'm wondering should I suck it up and continue? Switch my major? What do you all think? Advice would really be appreciated, thank you!
