after taking your advice and filling out applications i am faced with what unit to apply. many of the experienced nurses say to start out on med-surg then go to a specialty.. and the younger ones say do what you want. what are the opinions here?

while Med/surg is a good stepping stone because of the variety of patients, the training in the specialty areas is such that you would be ok doing what you want and honing in on the skills needed for that. Nurses that get floated to our med/surg unit say that, even though they've done the med/surg thing, since they have specialized they don't remember a lot of things so....do what you want to do!!!
