Hi,

I am writing a research proposal and my question I am aiming to answer is, 'is exercise an effective treatment for depression in students in higher education?'

I am interested in this topic but not too sure how I would answer this. Any ideas?

A research questions should never be able to be answered 'yes' or 'no'. So, re-wording yours, I might ask "What effect does exercise have on (insert name of depressions screening tool) scores in college students?" So from there, you might take a couple of approaches.

- Have students self-report minutes of exercise (might re-word this to 'physical activity') then administer screening. Look for correlation between minutes of activity and scores.

-Screen a group of students for depression using the tool. Divide the group into two. Group one is the control. Group two is the experimental- they are enrolled in an exercise program. After a certain amount of time- re-screen both groups. Did scores change?

I hope this is helpful.

Hi,

thank you for your reply. The information is very helpful and seems more clear!

thanks
