Question re: Chem as a pre-req for A&P..please help!

Nursing Students General Students

Ok, I took Chem 100 (Basic Chem) last semester. This semester I am taking A&P. The pre-req for A&P is Chem 101 (General Chem.) I spoke to the instructor and she said I "should" be Ok with Chem 100. I have been reading my A&P book and I think I "might" be Ok too. I'm just wondering, how intensive is Chemistry in A&P? I really appreciate your replies!

Thanks,

Marci:)

not sure if your still reading this post or not. I am taking intro to chemistry. This is a college course but it is equal to high school chemistry. The reason i have to take it is becasue I dropped out of high school at a young age and now I have to do those classes I thought I'd never use anyway. Life lesson learned. High school chemistry is required for admission to NY state nursing programs as far as I know. This is what I was told by the director of the nursing school I plan to attend. If anyone has information to the contrary please let me know. I would love to get out of doing it..lol.

It's possible that you will need that. However, If I were you, I would take a look at the Nursing requirements and check for myself. Believe it or not, I have gotten wrong info from counselors before!!

Chem usually is required as one of the sciences for nursing. Just make sure you are in the right one.

Good luck!

:( That is a killer to HAVE to take Chem. I would die!

For our program, the only required courses are A&P I and II, English 101, Math, Philosophy and Micro.

We have other courses that need to be completed before you graduate but not necessary to get in. I have EVERYTHING done except micro and A&P II, which I'm in now.

Hopefully it'll be this fall. Major tears to those who have to take Chem...I'm sad for you, it is a bear!:o

THE THINGS TO REMEMBER ABOUT CHEMISTRY / PHYSIOLOGY IS THE INTRACELLULAR AND EXTRACELLULAR IONS. YOU WILL REVISIT THESE SUBJECTS IN YOUR MED SURG CLASSES (RENAL AND HEART). OTHER THAN THAT, ASSIGNING CHARGES AND ALL THAT OTHER BLA, BLA, BLA YOU WILL NOT SEE AGAIN. GOOD LUCK :p

I am in AP I and my professor said at the begining of the class "this is not a Chemistry class so I will not be teaching Chemistry, just the basics". I HATED General Chem and she really did just teach very basic chemistry. It was not difficult and mostly memory based. If I can do it, I would think anyone would be ok. I think I will be taking Chem I and Lab though if I want to get into any Accel. BSN program. I know that won't be any fun.
