phlebotomist HELP!

I have a project and I really need some help. I have a very simple questionnaire about the steps taken to prevent spread of disease when drawing blood. All the steps taken...gloves, sterile equipment, auto clave, etc.

I don't necessarily need a phlebotomist, but someone who draws blood regularly.

Can anyone help?!!!

What do you need to know.?It's a clean procedure unless you are doing blood cultures. There is nothing to autoclave.

Bascially the idea is to show how health care professionals collect, handle and dispose of infectious materials. The steps taken to prevent the spread of bacteria from start to finish.

The autoclave shows how much I know! :)

Hello, I am a lab tech and draw blood on a regular basis...still need help?

as a lab tech can you offer any special ways you choose a vein or handle people with difficult veins? I am always interested in new techniques and just like to exchange ideas - looking for ways to improve my skills to make the draw as simple as possible. thanks

I would assume things like wash your hands before dawning gloves, dawn gloves, use a sterile needle, use an alcohol prep pad for 15 seconds on the site of VP in a circular inner to outer motion, don't blow on it to get it to dry (seriously, i have had a nurse do this TO ME), cover the site with a sterile bandaid, dispose of needles in a sharps container immediately, do not recap needles...am i missing anything here? don't forget to wash your hands after you remove your gloves as well...i cant really think of anything else.

hahah thanks for the vocab lesson. I actually know better but it was almost 3 in the morning when I replied. The best part is, I am usually the one calling out all of my friends for grammatical errors on facebook and such. Turnabout is fair play I suppose lol.
