PDA use in class?

I was thinking about bringing my laptop to class to type notes, but then decided against it because the battery only lasts for a couple of hours. Now I have been thinking about using my PDA with a folding keyboard to take notes. Do any of you do this and if so, does it work well? Do you get strange looks from everybody in class? Thanks in advance for your opinions.

Kimberly,

I just got a keyboard for mine, but can't figure out how to make Word work with it... techie challenged! Anyway, I'm anxious to get some feedback here...

I was planning on redoing notes during my breaks, not during class. I'd be too anal about making typing errors during class to concentrate.

So hey all... anyone a PDA user?

I think it is a good idea. One of the classmates had a notebook she used. I have also seen a PDA that was downloaded with Tabers, Merck and some other texts I don't recall. It was awesome. He could pull up any type of info needed, things like assessments, nursing procedures etc. in a matter of seconds. I don't know much about PDAs, but this person said he got updates by just plugging into his PC at night. I really believe this is the future in nursing classes.

I do actually already have Tabers on my PDA. I also have a regular dictionary, a flash card program, a timer, a periodic table, a program to keep track of my classes (assignments, grades, teacher's phone extension and e-mail, etc.), Word to Go, a dictionary of eponyms, and a program of various types of medical calculators. Then, of course, I have a couple of games, a shopping list, a book to read, a cook book, a program to keep track of bill information, and other non-school related stuff. I am sure I will be getting other nursing programs like epocrates and Merck, but I have to get them gradually over time as some are quite expensive. Any suggestions on the really essential ones for first semester of nursing school would be appreciated. Thanks.
