I am an LPN student who is graduating in 5 weeks (yay!) I have spent the last few months applying for both clinical and clerical positions at hospitals/clinics etc to get my foot in the door somewhere. I finally got a call for an interview for a weekend front office position at an urgent care center near my house. This is not a clinical/patient care position. I am kinda nervous about the interview since I figure they will think I am only interested in this position until I pass boards, and then will jump ship. I made it quite clear on my resume that I am graduating from an LPN program in December, so I definitely wasn't being dishonest and would actually love the position. Also, I am currently 16 weeks pregnant and would probably not even be able to work as an LPN for at least 6 months. (I do not want to inform the potential employers of my pregnancy though) I don't even really know what I'm asking, I just don't know how to approach the interview. I do not want to be dishonest and lead them to believe that I am looking at this position long term, but I don't want to be discounted because they think I'm not serious about working there. It is after all, only a p/t position. The urgent care center is actually within a network of several hospitals/clinics/Private Practices and the network uses LPN's quite extensively. I would love to get my foot in the door w/ the network and would even love to work for the urgent care center as an LPN eventually if possible. Any advice? TIA

I would probably still go to the interview because you're able to get face time with HR, and then you can reiterate to them that you are graduating from school in the next 5 weeks.

I think it's better to get your foot in the door, then apply for a different position once you pass your NCLEX. The employment climate for new grads is very difficult these days, and most employers actually want you to show proof of your license before hiring you, at least this way, you can take your time studying for boards. Then when you pass you already have an internal access to them, which is usually a priority over external applicant anyway.

As for the pregnancy, I truly believe in honesty the first time around, especially because this is not something you'll be able to hide from them.

I say definitely go for the interview because you really are not going to lose anything if they decide not to hire you.

Good luck!
