Change of path...

Nursing Students General Students

Hello everyone,

I am currently a student pursing a Bachelors degree in psychology and business but have recently changed my mind and am interested in pursuing a career in nursing. I am in my junior year of college right now. My question is if it would be better for me to complete my degree where I am now and then do the accelerated BSN for non nursing majors, or if i should transfer now and do a nursing degree at a different school that has a nursing program (my school does not).

Thank you for your help!

It's totally up to you. Weight all your pros and cons...cost, lenght of time in school, financial aspects, etc. and then make your choice. Make sure you look into the other programs to see what pre-reqs you still need to take, it may be beneficial to just finish your degree if you can count some of those pre-reqs towards it. Best wishes.

I also knew that I was going to do nursing before I finished my first undergraduate degree. I graduated (took all the pre-req's I could) and then took a year off waiting for my husband to graduate. Now I am in a BSN program--It will only take two years for me since I got all my pre-req's done...so I transferred in as a junior in the program. The only drawback--- because I already had a bachelor's degree-- I DID NOT qualify for ANY financial aid regardless of my economic status. I was only offered loans. I did not know this going in--my advisor told me not to worry about the money since my school has a lot of fin aid available. I had a 4.0 in my pre-req's and graduated with a 3.95 total. I was greatly disappointed and will be paying it off for a few years. It is totally worth it as I will be graduating in Dec 08 and I love it. But just an FYI.
