Can you work and go to school?

Nursing Students General Students

I'm currently in my general education phase of preparing for Nursing School at Ivy Tech in Central Indiana. Hopefully, I will be admitted into the program in Fall 08. I was wondering if any of you have atteneded such a program and had time to work on a part time basis? I have a very flexible Sales job, that I can do on the weekends or evenings about 15 hours per week---it's the only way I can get through school. Does anyone have any input on this?

wow. my hats off to you.

i'm in an accelerated bsn program and i've been working 30-40 hours a week (sometimes up to 50). yeah, i know it's crazy, but i have no choice. i don't have anyone to help me financially. i am looking into some scholarship opportunities for the summer and fall though, 'cause working all these hours isn't leaving much time for all the busy work nursing school requires. it's all up to the individual. some people can handle school and work; some can't.

You can do anything if you want it bad enough. I am about to finish my LPN program and I worked 24 hours on the weekends at the hospital. I am not going to tell you it has been easy. I am an older student and have to spend extra time studying at times. I also live 45 miles from work and school, which can make for long days. With my work, school and clinicals I was home one day in February. But....I want to be an RN! I am willing to put in the effort needed. I have worked very hard to get here and I hope by this time next year to be thinking about being finished. The best advice I can give you is to never put things off. Complete assignments as soon as possible. Study everyday and stay organized. Good luck!

I tried to work once before and it did not work. Some people can and some people can't. I just could not concentrate. I just crashed and burned and on top of that my marriage was on the verge of being over. If you feel like you can do it, try it.
