Hello!
I'm Chelle, and I've been lurking on this site for about a month now, and decided this looked like a really friendly, supportive group!
I'm married, and mom to Conner (2 1/2) and Skyla (10 months). I've considered becoming a nurse for about a year now, and after being inspired by the AWESOME nurse that helped me deliver my daughter and a lot of soul searching, I've decided to go for it. I'd like to become a L & D nurse, but I'm planning on going through school with an open mind in case I find some other area of nursing I like better.
I've been admitted, but haven't registered for my fall classes yet. They are just pre-req's to get into the nursing program. I'm a little worried about getting into the program because I was told that applicants were chosen by lottery. I have to apply a whole year in advance, so I'm really scared of passing my pre-req's and being approved for the program and then not getting in simply because of a little bad luck in the lottery.
Anyways, I can't wait to get to know you all!

Hi Chelle and everyone!
I've been a lurkin too and feel happy to have found this wonderful family :-) I just started my prereqs too and hope to start nursing in the Fall of 2003. Most schools here are by lottery (junior colleges). State schools are by GPA. I have heard of a couple juniour colleges that are first come first serve though. Anyone else from CA?
Glad to know y'all :)

I think the lottery system stinks! How unfair! It seems that the people with the best grades would be the most qualified! In WA our community college goes by a point system based on gpa and experience in health care system. For instance, if you have worked as a dental asst. you get 9 points towards entrance or if you have been an emt or lpn you get 12 points, ect.
I have been a lurker myself and decided it was time to post. I have finished my first quarter of nursing school and start second quarter in the fall. Very excited because we will be working in a hospital instead of the nursing home.
I have seen a few posts from TN. I grew up in Chattanooga and love seeing where people are from.
