At the risk of sounding stupid....

I know this may sound like a silly question, but I am serious. I believe that there are ghosts, if you will. I had a nightmare the other night that I was with a dead patient and it turned and looked at me. I am only in my pre-reqs, but has anybody ever thought about the less clinical side? I mean does anyone ever think of the spooky side of things? I know it might sound crazy, but I just want to make sure I am not the only possible nurse to be :uhoh3: with the thought.:sofahider

What a creepy dream!

You're not the only nurse with this concern. Many unexplained things have happened to nurses. Do a search on this site for "Ghost" and you'll see!

We have a ghost in our house. My daughter has seen her on more than one occasion, and so has her best friend. According to neighbors that "knew her" she was a nice little lady though! I've never told the neighbors about her. I have heard strange sounds in the middle of the night, but somehow it doesn't spook me. My daughter says she hears her most around 3 a.m.-ish when she does hear her.

We've only lived in this house one year, and it's not an old house.

You know, I think 3am is considered to be the bewitching hour, when hauntings and such are at their peak.

I think we have a ghost too, but my husband doesn't believe me. But too much weird stuff has happened, and I hear way too many noises on a daily basis, especially when I'm home alone. Just the other day I heard a very loud noise that startled me awake, and I looked everywhere but couldn't find an explaination for it. True, I might have dreamt it, but I have never had a dream before like that where a noise wakes me up that wasn't a REAL noise like an alarm clock or the phone ringing.

I believe there is a presence in my home. My dh and I have both had someone yell "HEY" in our ear as we were sleeping. He has felt someone holding him down and I have felt someone put pressure on my hip(all in bed and only when he or I was alone in bed). My mil has seen a figure standing behind her while she was doing dishes (window infront of the sink showing reflection) in our house. I came home one afternoon and my kids bedroom door was shut (it's never shut). I thought it was strange. I opened it and the room was like a fridge! I went in and layed some of their clothes on the bed and I heard the VCR turn on. I turned around to look (I was a little freaked at this point) and the VCR displayed it's startup greeting "HELLO". Um, the clothes can stay on the bed.

I was home alone (dh was out for a run) and I smelt cologne like someone was standing there next to me (I was laying on the couch). I was so afraid to get up and look, but I did. Nothing. About 5 mins later, dh came home. He said he had the most miraculous run. It felt like his dad was there with him. hmmmmm. (his dad died about 12 years ago)

OMG your post just gave me the chills, especially the part about someone yelling "Hey" in your ear. Did the cologne smell familiar? Maybe it is his dad. I feel things in the bed, too, like the springs will start popping and it feels like a small dog or a cat has jumped up on the bed. I had a couple episodes of sleep paralysis as well. It's very freaky - I would wake up but not open my eyes, and even though it was nighttime I could tell that the room was light, at least in some places. I would be scared and want to wake my husband, but I wouldn't be able to move a muscle. I had a very bad feeling, and felt like if I opened my eyes, something horrible would happen. My limbs eventually were able to move, but they felt like they weighed a hundred pounds each, and once I'd finally slide an arm or leg over to touch my husband, I'd fall back asleep immediately. I thought it was a dream the first time it happened, but then I read about it and a few of my friends admitted the same thing has happened to them.

I believe we are so much more than our physical being and that energy just can't end when we cease to breathe.

I have dealt a bit with spirits etc when I dabbled in mediumship for a while. It can be scary but often there is a message attached, things aren't necessarily random. And also, I believe that there is energy 'imprint' where if something or someone does something often enough, you can get 'echos' of it later. I am pretty sure I picked that up from Sylvia Browne (one of the very few things she has said that I agree with lol)

I also firmly believe in messages in dreams etc. To the OP: analyse your dream, what feelings did you have? What feelings did you awake with? What images stand out. Think on this and see what each means to you. A dream of death/dying speaks of changes. Change is not easy all the time--and something has to end. But the other side of that is that something new comes to start up. This is easily related to nursing school but you also want to look at your personal life and see what things are ending--or need to end--that you are hanging onto.

We've both had the paralysis thing too! THAT is a freaky feeling! The cologne was so nice smelling, definately man's cologne. I never met his dad, he died before I met my dh. But my mil will get a strong whiff of his cologne every now and then, and one time she was in her bathroom with the door shut. She heard a thud on the bathroom door. (She lives alone) She opened the door and one of his military medals was laying there. She was never able to dream about him from the day he died until recently (remember, he died over 12 years ago). She saw him in a dream just a few months ago. He came to her and she said "can I hug you? Is it allowed?" He just smiled at her, hugged her and disappeared. When I first went to the home he shared with his family (mil has since moved to Vegas to be near us), my dh and I slept in her bed. I had a dream that I met him and he took me to Disneyland. We had a wonderful time and I could sense that he approved of me. He was very welcoming. That morning I woke up and was so at peace. I went into the kitchen (only one awake at this point) and looked at the family pictures on the fridge. It was him.

At this point I had never seen a picture of him. This was my first trip to his moms in Cali. My dh and I fell head-over-heals with each other from day one, were engaged in 2 months and married 6 months later. We are now approaching our 10 year in August and have the kind of marraige people envy. I guess his dad knew as quick as we did, so he welcomed me into the family. It is a dream I will NEVER forget. The weirdest part was seeing him in that picture the next morning. It just makes me smile.

Well, the fact that you got so many responses to your post rather rapidly should let you know that this is a rather interesting topic. People have a very definite view of this subject. I worked with a nurses aide who frequently told us she saw a certain ghost walking the halls of the hospital at night.

When I started learning and practicing transcendental meditation back in the late 70's (when the Beatles were making it popular) one of the things that happened to me almost right away was that I started having psychic phenomena happening around me. To this day I carry a healthy suspicion of whether or not it's real or some mind trick of my own making. I tend to think that it's my own mind having some fun because you cannot deny the entertainment value of seeing and talking to spirits. And, in our great grand-relatives days before radio and TV this is one of the amusements they engaged in. The more time I devote to regular meditation, the more experiences I will have and not necessarily during meditation time. I'll get some real whopping, eye-popping dreams, let me tell you. Psychic activities, however, take a lot out of me because they are so emotional and I often end up in tears.

But you tell me if it's true or not. Five years before 9/11 I had a nightmare that woke me up. I cried for at least an hour because I was so shaken up. I thought that I had dreamed of this big earthquake in California that everyone was always warning was going to happen. The buzz in the psychic community was that something was going to happen by 1998 and this was around 1995. In my dream I was in a tall building. People were being thrown around on the floor because of violent shaking of the building. For some strange reason there was a huge space between the floor above me and the one I was on. Oh, well, it was a dream and dreams are strange. Then, the building that I could see next to me looked like it was sinking and just sank down and out of site. At that point I woke up. My heart was pounding and I felt scared. My tears started flowing. Five years later when 9/11 happened it wasn't until a day later that I remembered this dream which I always thought was a premonition of an earthquake and realized that it was really a premonition of 9/11.

I used to sit with a healing group of a metaphysical group every Sunday afternoon. People would request healing from them and as a group we would do focused meditation for each person's request. I was amazed to find that I was often able to visualize with great detail what was wrong with the person (our group leader never gave us specifics, only the person's name and location on the planet). My visions were often not only colorful but very simple and to the point. A sick heart might be presented to me as being kind of droopy looking, an odd brownish color and barely able to beat. For one person I saw a bone in their arm that was absolutely shattered into a hundred pieces and after the group meditation found that I was right on the money. I have no way of knowing if the healing energy we sent these people worked at all. But, I believe there are researchers who are trying to prove these theories scientifically. I was once told in a meditation that I would some day work with a physician where both of us would sit quietly with patients and be able to determine with only our minds what was going wrong in the patient's body. It's hard to know if this was true or a sneak peak into the future or just pure fantasy. There was a young psychic in a meditation group to which I belonged whose psychic talent was she was able to become liquified crystal (in a meditative state) and enter a person's body. When she found (psychically) something wrong in the body, she would assume the properties of the correct liquid crystal in order to get into and heal that area. (Certain kinds of crystals are known to be healers.) I also knew of a psychic who claimed to be a channel for a group of physicians in the spirit world who she worked with to help heal people in the physical world. She would sit quietly in meditation and call the doctors to examine her client. These spirit doctors would then do some spiritual healing of their own on the patient as well as give the psychic instructions to pass on to the patient. The principle here was that healing must first occur with the psychic body before it can occur in the physical body. This is all metaphysical philosphy. My own spirit guides have told me that my current doctor is a spiritual healer and although he is not aware of it, is able to command incredibly powerful energies to help heal his patients. Part of his current life work, I was told, is to learn to perfect the use of this energy. Heard enough? I'll go back to posting weblinks to help you guys with your studies and you just forget I said anything about this stuff.

Yeah, this is the kind of stuff I'm talking about. When I say we are never alone, this is the kind of stuff I mean. You had a visit. What a nice experience.

For the person who wakes up and finds they can't move. . .you are having out of body experiences. You are out of your body, your mind is actually traveling within an etherial world but nearly fully conscious. Our conscious mind can't fathom ourselves without a body so it pulls our body into it's reality. In the etherial demension we have no control of anything in the physical world which is why you are unable to move any part of your bodies. For those having encouters with spirits. . .if you have the presence of mind to get over the shock of what is happened and keep your wits about you, you will find that you can communicate with any beings you encounter. You can ask questions or give them commands or warnings to stay away from you. On the other hand, you can keep your eyes closed until the extrasensory stimuli (the smells or sounds) go away. It is rare that they can do any harm to you. Mostly they are just missing the former good things in their lives and you just got in the way!

Wow! I guess I am not crazy. I am so glad. All of your stories are so interesting and some creepy. I think all of this pre nursing stuff is just making me think about death that could be encountered and I guess potential spirits. My dream was eerie but did not bother me simply made me wonder if healthcare people ever encounter the supernatural side to things. Everyones posts show me that I am obviously not the only one to think of this.:thankya: Thanks.

Okay, I've never been more freaked out in my entire life.
