Just wondering if there are any other nursing students from alaska.

Heather

:nurse: Hi , even though I am not from Alaska, that is the place I want to be.After my BSN I hope to become a midwife and practice there. Alaska has been my dream home for many years. What school are you attending are there many students in your class.Hope to hear from you soon.

Actually I am enrolled for Fall 2003 at the University of Alaska, Anchorage. Just poking around right now.

Alaska is a fantastic place to live and work. I moved here from California in 1996 and fell in love. The people are just wonderful.

Ther are many oportunities for midwives as many people live hours form teh closest hospital..(I traveled 1 1/2 hours in a snow storm to deliver my daughter :) )

Good Luck! I have live all over the state so if you have any questions about a specific area let me know.

:balloons: Hi It is nice to meet you. I am in the nursing program in Bergen County NJ. We started with 45 students and we are now down to 29. currently 20 of us are failing or very close to it. Most of us were on Dean's List prior to starting the program. I have a great deal of difficulty with NCLEX type tests. So often I have chosen the right answer only to be told there is one better. So the program is hard but I am trying to stick it out.

Alaska must be very cold this time of year. I have always thought of Nome. I have video tapes that I have watched over and over and love the scenery and the animals. I am a romantic but is it as beasutiful as portrayed. I was thinking, if finances allow , of comming up there for vacation. What is considered off season. Are prices better at any time of the year.

Any way thank you responding. I hope to continue to hear from you. You are now my first contact in Alaska. So you have made my day.

Hi, I was born and raised in Alaska (38 years). Never lived anywhere else. I got my RN at University of Alaska, Anchorage. It's ranked very high for their nursing program.

Alaska is a wonderful place and full of many opportunities. Like career seeker said, a lot of people are remote and midwives are very popular in remote villages. In some places, even in the big city, some people will ask for a midwife vs a OB. I think that they feel more comfortable with a midwife. Anyways, we need more nurses here and it really is a beautiful state. Lots of mountains and trees! Come on up!

Well, I guess I meet half of what you were looking for Career. :D I'm in Alaska but not a nurse. I am a paramedic providing industrial medicine in a remote location. I also fly CC Medevac out of Fairbanks and am hoping to do nursing school in the next few years.

RN2B- After September you get into the off season though we are still getting hunters up here. You can get better rates on most stuff in the winter but a lot of the tourist based buisnesses shut down. Figure out what you want to do/see then look into time of year.

Hi and thank you everyone:)

I am beginning to feel right at home... in Alaska.I can't wait to meet you all and deliver a few babies.

You put a smile on face today :p

RN2Bee,

Like cold feet said, it depends on what you are interested in doing in Alaksa as to when to come up. In my previous life I was in hospitality management and am pretty familliar wiht many diferent activities in Alaska from Seward to Fairbanks...sounds like coldfeet probably knows more about fairbanks, however.

Personally, my favorite time of the year is Fall. It is still fairly warm, less tourists, and teh fall colors are incredible...not to mention bery picking. And yes, many parts of alaska are just as beautiful, if not more, than the pictures.

Look me up if you come to visit. I am moving to Anchorage in April to start school!!

Heather
