CE's are required by most states to renew your license. I have never heard of taking CE (continuing education) raising someone's salary.......just degree's and certifications in helping get promotions which results in higher pay....

I doubt any will help you get a raise unless your boss is able to reward you for going above and beyond what is required of your position.

Talk to your HR department. In my school district, clock hours can be transferred into credits which when added up, can move you along the pay scale. But it takes lots - like 45 credits (which translates to 450 clock hours).

And as to which type - look around. I am certificated (same contract as the teachers) so I can technically take any class they take. We have several weeks of classes sponsored by my district over the summer - the nurses have one day, and usually there are days on other "medical" issues, like working with kids with autism or other special needs or behaviors. I took one class on engaging kids who don''t want to learn mainly because my 14 year old son is not really motivated at school. Last summer I took classes on bullying, emergency preparedness, child abuse and drug/alcohol recognition.

There are also classes offered at our local hospital and nursing school. Each has one "school nurse" class per year, and you can usually take whatever class they offer like assessment. If you are close to a teaching hospital the grand rounds are great.
