What specialty are you??

Nurses General Nursing

Hello,

I am applying into nursing school for this upcoming fall semester, and wanted to get some opinions on different avenues of nursing. Can you list what dept. you are in, and your overall opinion about it or any other dept. that you worked in. I know that people's opinion vary, but I think this should help me gain some type of knowledge of what to expect. Thanks!!!

Specializes in Psych, EMS.

Psych! I wanted ER (EMS background)..but psych is a good fit for me as I have a psychology degree in addition to a BSN. It is a very unique nursing specialty. We do not perform most of the skills that a typical hospital nurse does, which concerns me because I will be rusty when transitioning to ER. However..I do like that it is process oriented as opposed to task oriented. Along with passing medications and pt assessments, I lead meditation exercises, a yoga class, and co-facilitate a DBT skills group. I attend multi-disciplinary team meetings discussing diagnoses and treatment plans. I would recommend Psych.

Good luck with school, hope you find your niche!!

Specializes in LTC, Subacute Rehab.

Rehab! Post CVA, post joint replacement, the occasional wound vac or PVD train wreck. The population is mostly elderly, with a good few chronic co-morbidities to make things interesting.
