To take the job or not???

So I went on my second interview with the nursing director and guessing by a little fact I told her I'm sure they will be calling me back with an offer. (I told her that I have taken care of upwards of 15 patients, boy she was happy about that)

Background:

I currently work in the ER (as you may know ad nauseum already lol) with an average of 8-9 patients per nurse but up to 14-15 patients per nurse. But I'm getting burned out and want something new. So.............

I've applied everywhere. I'd love to try out PACU, ICU, NICU, even strictly trauma or trauma ICU you know anything else but ED!!!

The only place that has called me back wants me for ED.

The thing is, like I said I need a break from ED but:

Pros: This prospective job offers more money (like way more)

Nurses actually sit at the nurses' station instead of running around outside of it (my current job)

Prestigious hospital (maybe I can transfer to another unit???, but I'm burned out the ED and want a different position badly!!!!!!!!!!)

Better union than what I'm in now

Cons: Long commute

High nurse to patient ration (as per the director 12:1) which is the same to worse than my current job. Plus the director said that acuity is mixed. They have no critical care area or holding area for admitted patients.

Surrounding neighborhood is kind of rough (inner city/ many psych patients)

Position is nights ( I currently work nights and want to get off nights badly as well)

From the get go I knew I may not want the position but decided that because I have been applying to this great hospital for years I may as well take the opportunity. But I feel like I wouldn't be advancing in my career to take this position. I was thinking of taking part-time or per-diem just to keep my foot in the door and hopefully transfer. Even though the salary is so appealing, I don't want the stress of having upwards of 10 patients with varying acuits and dealing with holding patients because of no beds. I have tried transfering at my current job but I didn't get it (someone more senior did) and now after reading that thread on here I'm wondering if my manager could be blocking my transfers???

Since I have limited options maybe I should just take this offer per-diem and work at my current job until I can transfer again or find somewhere else that I will like???

Plus did I mention that as the beginning of the interview the director mumbled something like ''oh why would anyone want to work here'' I don't know if she was being sarcastic or letting off a bit of warning.

Sigh any advice?????

Well the grass always looks greener, especially when you are burnt out! Take your time and really consider your options. If you don't need the money, then I would wait until something you really want becomes available. Why take the job if you really want to transfer somewhere else? I'm sure you will figure out what's best for you, and good luck :-) maybe something will pop up in the PACU or ICU soon.

P.S. It sounds like that comment she made may have been out of sarcasm, maybe she was having a rough day....? Lol

Thanks ninja! yes maybe I should just stick it out in familiar territory instead of venturing to the unknown which I already know the battle ahead! ER is rough. And no I don't really need the money, although it would be nice. Working in the ER in the inner city is even rougher. Sigh

C'mon PACU/ICU!!!!! where are ya???
