saw an ad on tv asking for pts who suffered a stroke or MI while on vioxx. looks like a class action suit. anyone have any info?

Today's Dr. Gott column in the paper addresses the potential for increased risk of MI d/t vioxx and celebrex.

"Further research was certainly needed, and it has now been carried out. The findings, which were reported in the Archives of Medicine on May 27, are fascinating.

In the three recent investigations, placebos were used. When compared to the placebo group, the Celebrex/Vioxx patients did not have a higher incidence of cardiovascular events. When compared to the same placebo group, the Naproxen patients had a lower incidence of heart attacks.

Therefore, the authors concluded Celebrex and Vioxx are not associated with an increase in cardiac problems. Naproxen protects its users from such problems. In a phrase, the effects and complications of any drug must be analyzed against placebos, as well as similar medications. Celebrex and Vioxx are safe to use; Naproxen is equally effective and seems to protect against heart attacks as well."

Thanks Aimee!!

I read today that some other preliminary evidence shows that Tylenol has some protective use when taken during a MI like ASA does. I guess for people who are afraid of a heartburn during the MI???

I think I'd risk it to go for the proven benefit of ASA rather than see if Tylenol helps as much. Just my opinion.
