Urine test and Phentermine 15mg

I'm pretty petrified. I'm a fairly new nurse and I've just been hired for my dream job in peds in a huge practice. My concern is today I went in for my urine test and totally forgot to mention I was taking doctor prescribed appetite suppressants. Now I'm worried this will come up in my urine test as an amphetamine and they'll withdrawn the offer. I'm so worried...I get these meds weekly and it's a doctor supervised diet. Every week I pick up my little bag of 7 pills and I totally forgot to mention it. As long as it's prescribed by a doctor will I be ok? Please help!

Thank you! I have a letter from my Dr advising them that I'm on a diet program do you think that would be suffice? Should I wait until they call me or should I call them and advise that I forgot to tell them?

Hello nylpn,

I am sorry that this is making you worried. I just started working at a weight loss clinic and in most cases, the letter we produce should suffice any testing that your employer requires. I agree with Green T that you should call and give them a heads up. Then while waiting for results, I would go to the clinic where you get your pills from and ask for a letter regarding the diet program that you are on. Employers usually honor it... We have a lot of nurses that come to our clinic too.

Good luck!

Thank you cocoalover! I'm going to tell them in person tomorrow when I go in for ppd check. The letter I got today doesn't really specify what I'm taking it only says appetite suppressants...I hope that's enough. I also have the little bags the meds come in which are dated and indicate the doctors name lot# my name etc...hope that's enough.

That should be enough. If they are doubtful, the letter head would have the clinic's contact information. You can direct them to the clinic provider. Here in California, the letter is sufficient. No further questions are asked.

You're welcome!

Ok done! I called one of the employee health nurses and disclosed what I was taking so that they know. They mentioned just to bring in the rx info tomorrow and they'll make a copy of it...I hope that's all! This had me sleepless last night!

Okie dokie! Problem solved ;-) You deserve a nap.

I'm perplexed...my results came back negative. The health nurse mentioned that the dosage might have been under therapeutic levels. Whatever the case may be...training starts soon! He still took copies though.

Yes, for some people, the urine won't be positive. It's really not considtent. It depends on the urine test, product, dosage, multiple factors, etc. But what you did is right. If it tested positive and you did not disclose the prescription, it may become a problem.

Also, as Grn Tea had mentioned, the labeled bottle alone will not be acceptable. Always keep a copy of your letter from the clinic, the one that prescribed you the phen.

Thank you so much for your help everyone! I have that letter and I'm gonna save it for future reference just in case :-)
