Travel nursing tends to weigh on many peoples minds. It is an advantageous path and definitely not for everyone, but how can one balance the best from both worlds??

What are your thoughts on traveling to support a family? What are some of the benefits, besides money, that could make sacrificing time away from loved ones? Has anyone lived the life with bringing the family along? Finally, what are the biggest challenges that you all have seen with this attempt to balance life and financial freedom?

I want to hear from not only those who have done it, but are contemplating making this transition for the first time.

Personally I'm planning to start as an empty nester. (My son is 3)

Maybe will take an assignment a few hours away in a couple years to get my feet wet.

Then could travel home often.

Taking a child on the road and homeschooling isn't for us though some do it.

I have a friend who is a dialysis nurse and her husband is a firefighter. They decided to travel when her husband's cancer went into remission. They had 3 kids, 2 in middle school and one in high school. They talked it over with the kids, they enrolled in online school, she signed with an agency and off they went. Her husband volunteers with the fire departments of where they go. They have been to Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Boston, California, Hawaii and Denver so far. They all love it. Two of the kids are now in online college and still love traveling. You just have to have a flexible family who don't mind being nomads!

I would imagine it totally depends on kids. Is public school now completely available online? My theoretical kids education would probably be my biggest concern. Other than that I would build a mini home that is portable and vroom on off.
