Summer Nursing Internship in Africa! Need Help!

Nurses General Nursing

Hey Guys!!!!!

I have the most amazing news! A few weeks ago I was accepted into this program called Medics to Africa (link below). The program provides year round medical programs and internships. The program is focused towards International Medical, Pre-Medical, and Nursing Students. I, of course, will be attending under the nursing module and will have the opportunity to work with African Nurses in a Kenyan Hospital for 2 weeks!

For a little background, I'm 18 years old and a current full-time Pre-Nursing Student in Southeastern NC. I work full-time as a CNA-I at a local hospital. Nursing is something I really want to do and I am currently a ADN program candidate. I find out whether I got into the first of three nursing schools I applied to in about 2 or 2 1/2 weeks (Hopefully I'll get in!) I can't wait!

I am supposed to leave for Kenya Africa on June 1st and return June 14th. I am in the process of saving money and raising money to go on the trip. The cost of my trip is $1650, not including my passport fees and flight. I have already got one sponsor to donate my $500.00 deposit, as well as some smaller (but much appreciated) donations form friends and family. I am still in the process of raising money. I wanted to ask if any of you guys had any ideas of how I could raise some of the funds. I have already started a letter writing campaign, writing various local businesses and people for support and sponsorships. Do you have any suggestions of companies or organization I could contact. I've been informed that Businesses and individuals could use their financial support of my trip as a tax write off! Please give me some Ideas please PM (private message) me. Thanks Guys!:):):):D

Hello,

I am not sure if you will get this but I am very interested in this very program and I would really like to know how everything went for you! Was it worth the money and did you feel safe all of the time? How did everything work out?

Hanna,

I was actually unable to attend my trip due to my acceptance to nursing school in May. As requirement for nursing school all accepted students had to take this mandatory class. I was devestated that I couldn't go, but the program director was very kind and understanding and gave me a refund for my deposit money. The program has a website and a facebook page that I suggest you look at. Let me know if you have anymore questions, I'll be happy to answer them.
