I am curious to know if any of you in LTC are meeting the requirement for the new staffing ratios that changed on May 1st from 2.6 to 2.9?
Finding staff is one thing, keeping them is another... Just wondered where you were with the process??

[QUOTE=Monica RN,BSN]Where exactly do you get the staff ratio figure from? Where do you nurse - hands on? at that ratio? I work in Nursing homes mainly now (used to work in hospitals both psych & general as RN & RMN for 30yrs+) and the ratio of RN's to clients during the day is around 1 to 20 or 32. At nights RN to clients about 1 to 150+! Assistants 1 to 10 during the day and from 1 to 25+ at night. Local Hospital boasted having 1 nurse (RN/EEN) to 6 or more clients. Intensive Care obviously 1 to 1. I can recall having up to 4 and sometimes 5 clients on a surgical ward to myself and having to bata for a break with other nurses in the same situation.
