SDC's vs TED hose

  1. We aways seem to be out of SCD's and the docs order them. It seems like they are ordered for every pt admited even those admitted for 23 obs with a "hangnail". I don't know what happens to them (the SCD machines), the hospital must eat them. To try to make the best out of this situation, I asked the powers that be if we could have a criteria for the use of the SCD's, priority to nonambulatory high risk pts. TED hose for ambulatory pts. The response I got back was, "We need to have research that shows that TED hose are effective for DVT prophalatics in ambulatory pts. I am having a really hard time finding any information. Can anyone help?
