I work in LTC and have just been told that I'm going to start being responsible for the resident roster matrix and census report. I've seen it and it looks like Greek to me! I know it has to do with the MDS and that surveyors want it when they come. What all can you tell me about this?

i work in ltc and have just been told that i'm going to start being responsible for the resident roster matrix and census report. i've seen it and it looks like greek to me! i know it has to do with the mds and that surveyors want it when they come. what all can you tell me about this?

i know it looks scary, but it is really not all that bad. there is a "key" that goes with it, and tells you what sections of the mds are affecting that question you are looking at.

they are printed out i hope, because to hand write them is monotonous to say the least! the "upkeep" is because the roster is updated with mds submission dates, and your new admissions may not be on the roster, or your fall that occured yesterday is not in that section, also if the person is having an acute episode of illness, or recovering from same, then the medications will be over or under the amount listed (9 or more meds) the same with recent hospitlaizations/admissions/transfers. im doing this from memory at this point, because i dont have one in froon of me, but you get the idea. i know that remembering to update it weekly is easier than rushing to get it done when the surveyors come. i used the report sheets for the week, and sat with the form, re-read the report sheets, and updated if needed. also, if the state was to come in and request it, i was only a couple of days behind, not a month or even heaven forbid 3 months! there is that second section, that is not the grid, where they are strictly looking for numbers, # of residents with foley, # of residents with g tubes .. etc good luck with it, and get the key!!

Thanks for the reply! Makes me fell better. I've worked in LTC for 15 years but as a floor nurse at different stations, as much paperwork as I've seen, I can't believe there is even more that I haven't seen! Will I be able to keep up with 76 residents?
