Wags, ANA has lobbyists who do take the members' concerns to our US Representatives. I also belong to AACN (American Association of Critical Care Nurses), and they bring their members' concerns to Washington DC also.
Nurses have historically kept silent in the media; and this has hurt us. We are the largest workforce in healthcare and have a right to speak out in public and in the media. Now it is time for us to correct our past failures. It is much easier to belong to a professional organization and be active in it than to try to address everyone of your concerns by yourself to the policymakers and legislators in your district. It is also important to let your legislators know your viewpoint of health care reform.

How important do you think it is to join a professional organization in nursing? Do you think we would have more of a voice in health care?
