My classmates and I are working on one of our LAST nursing school assigments. We are required to research this topic and then ask nurses for their opinions on the subject. We would really appreciate any responses to this question. Thank you in advance for your time!!!!

Topic:

"A competent nurse will engage in reflection, self-analysis, and self-care."

Do you agree with this statement? Why or why not?

(Specific examples are greatly appreciated - i.e. "A nurse who makes a medication error but reflects on what he/she would do differently next time will be less likely to repeat the mistake.")

Nursing can be a challenging stressfull job. A healthy nurses does indeed take pause at the end of a stressful day for self-analysis. "Was there something I could have done better? Something I could let go of? Some better way of organizing myself so it won't be so stressful". The healthy (or competent if you will) nurse does not beat him/herself up, but honestly looks at the day.

Self-care at the end of the day is important too, time to relax, exercise, right, love someone, etc.

Thanks for your response, Tweety!
